1961 Carvin #61-SGB w/#12-8 CA Amplifier + cabinet + matching case
1961 Carvin model #61-SGB and its matching 1961 Carvin model #12-8 CA Amplifier head + cabinet. The original hardshell case for the guitar is covered the same as the amp which is described in Carvin's early '60s catalog as "heavy-duty airplane luggage linen". It also comes with the original Carvin Guitar Vibro which attaches to the strings below the bridge and allows you to create vibrato with the palm of your hand. The customer copy of the original Cashier Check made out to Carvin Musical Instruments is included. The guitar has a great playing neck with great frets. It's all original and 100% complete along with its original hardshell case, bridge cover, envelope + key and an instructional note from Carvin. The guitar is in very good condition with some nicks + dings and other cosmetic wear including an area on the back of the headstock where a strip of the surface was shaved off for some unknown reason. The back of the neck was oversprayed at one time and most of that finish has been worn off which gives a smooth natural feel. The guitar itself remains structurally sound with no cracks, breaks or repairs. All electronics work and sound great with its original set of AP-6 pickups. The amplifier head and cabinet fasten together and each has their own handle (handle replaced on the head). The cabinet has both a 12" and an 8" Jensen speaker. The 12" Jensen Vibranto MI122/EM1202 is dated to 1968. The 8" Jensen Concert C8R is original to the amp and dates to 1961. The 8" speaker needs to be reconed as it is completely blown and most of the cone material is gone. The 12" speaker is in great shape and sounds great as the sole speaker wired to the amp. The amp is in good working condition. The tremolo works, but the strong pulsating effect is very audible through the speaker even before a signal passes through and is a bit overpowering when a signal does pass through. The volume also drops quite a bit when you turn the tremolo on. There is an ID # etched into the control plate of the amp. There is wear on both the amp and cabinet, but overall is in good condition.
